      About company

      Iron Oxide Manufacturer

FerroSAND™ iron oxide is produced on the basis of the natural mineral magnetite, obtained as a result of processing the man-made vermiculite deposit in the city of Kovdor, Murmansk region. After the stages of extraction from the rock, purification, enrichment and classification, iron oxide of specified fractions is obtained.

FerroSAND™ magnetite sand contains iron oxides Fe3O4 (FeO Fe2O3) and titanium oxide. The purity of iron oxide is more than 90%. For each batch of the product, the manufacturer provides a quality certificate, which indicates the exact content of oxides and impurities.

      Basic properties of magnetite:
      • Natural
      • Ecologically pure
      • Chemically inert
      • Non-toxic
      • Incombustible
      • Does not rust and deteriorate over time
      • Can be recovered, recycled and reused many times
      • Ferromagnetic
      • Electrically conductive
      • Heat conductive, high heat capacity
      • Absorbs infrared radiation
      • Absorbs radiation
      • Pure, without impurities, the content of iron oxides is more 90%

      Applications of magnetite

Magnetite is actively used in various industries.

Additive to molding sands for foundries

FerroSAND™ iron oxide is used as a sand additive to prevent surface defects in cast metal in foundries. The additive allows you to improve the surface of parts and avoid the formation of notches, pitting, hot cracks and gas defects. FerroSAND™ is added to the sand and resin mixture to make cores and molds.
Used in the production of steel, cast iron and non-ferrous castings.

Analysis of the influence of FerroSAND and other metal-containing additives on the properties of core sand-resin mixtures.

Functional filler for particularly heavy concrete

Particularly heavy concrete is used for the construction of monolithic structures, for the creation of structural elements of foundation blocks, piles and other structures, for the production of anchors, ballasts and counterweights, as well as for solving many other structural and technical problems.

Particularly heavy concrete has a density of 2500–5000 kg/m³ and has greater specific compressive strength compared to ordinary and lightweight concrete. Extra-heavy concrete contains fillers that provide high strength. The production of heavy concrete is regulated by GOST R 70222-2022, according to which heavy barite spar and iron ores are used as fillers: “Natural materials are used as materials for the production of fillers for especially heavy concrete: rich and medium magnetite, hematite, ilmenite, limonite ores and their varieties according to GOST R 52939-2008.” In addition to natural ores, cast iron or metal scrap is used as a filler.

Russian Federation standards regulating the production of heavy concrete: GOST R 70222-2022. Concrete is especially heavy. Technical specifications GOST R 52939-2008. Commercial iron ores, undressed. General technical conditions.

Natural fractionated magnetite is added to concrete, masonry and finishing construction mixtures to impart the following properties:

      • Increasing density
      • Increase in mass
      • Volume reduction
      • Noise and vibration insulation
      • Radiation protection
      • Reduce cracking

Where heavy concrete and finishing materials containing magnetite are used:

      • Anchoring of building structure elements
      • Marine anchors and ballasts
      • Bridge construction
      • Coastal defenses
      • Counterweights
      • Radiation protection of X-ray medical and nuclear facilities
      • Research and laboratory radiation protection
      • Containers for nuclear waste
      • Concrete Weight Coating for Pipelines
      • Aboveground and underground tunnels
      • Fireproof spray cement for steel protection

Raw materials for the production of coagulants and flocculants for industrial water treatment

Magnetite is a source of iron for the production of coagulants and flocculants for industrial water treatment. Fine powder is used for the production of reagents. Magnetite-based water treatment chemicals include ferrous sulfate, ferric chloride, and iron-aluminum sulfate.

Raw materials for the production of industrial chelates

Magnetite is a raw material for the production of industrial iron-containing chelates, which are used in agriculture, medicine, gas, oil and other industries.

Raw materials for the production of iron oxide catalysts for the chemical industry

Iron oxide FerroSAND™ is a component of organometallic catalysts in the heterogeneous catalysis reaction for purifying gas emissions from carbon monoxide.

Used in the oxidation reaction of CO to reduce harmful emissions and protect the environment. According to modern requirements of “green chemistry”, atmospheric emissions of gases from chemical production, the main of which is highly active and highly toxic carbon monoxide, must pass through gas cleaning systems. One of the main tasks of these systems is to carry out a heterogeneous catalysis reaction to oxidize carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The reaction is carried out on organometallic catalysts, which often use iron oxides. Magnetic sand is a source of iron oxides for the production of iron oxide catalysts.
Iron oxide catalyst is used in the production of ammonia.

Functional filler for polymers and coatings

Magnetite is a functional filler in polymers and coatings for various industries. Magnetite gives polymers the following properties:

      • Beautiful appearance due to the density of the coating
      • Noise and vibration insulation
      • Absorbing microwave energy and converting it into heat
      • Ferromagnetic attraction
      • Metal detection of polymers and plastics
      • Possible food contact
